Vasodilatation is a reaction that takes place at skin level and consists in an increase in the capacity of the blood vessels. With the capillaries dilated the skin has a red colour and is warm. Peripheral vasodilatation is also caused by an increase in the presence of CO2 in the blood or again by an increase in lactic acid or by a lowering of blood pH.
